GOLF TIPS
Unlike courses in the UK, Portuguese golf courses make most of their income from visitors who all come in the same months or weeks of the year. It is thus important to note that it is not often that you can play as two or three balls. To play as two or three balls, the only chance you will have is when the course is quiet, i.e. July, August & December, and even this is at the discretion of the course director on the day.

Pre-booking
Be aware that pre-booking a round of golf on your arrival day can be costly. If your flight is delayed and tee time is missed, the course will charge a ‘no show’ and no refunds will be allowed.

Handicap Restrictions:
More and more golf courses in the Lisbon region state handicap limits, and they have a right to ask for golfers’ certificates. Some courses refuse golfers to play if a valid handicap certificate is not presented, regardless what the clients say their golfing ability is. The average maximum handicap is 28 for men and 36 for ladies.

So the choice would be either to buy another pair of shoes, or, forfeit playing.

Useful Golfing Terms:
Many English golfing terms are the same in Portuguese, for example: bunker, green, divot, fairway, handicap putter, driver. The following, however, are not:
