THE CAPE CRUSADE: GOLFING IN SOUTH AFRICA'S MOTHER CITY & WINELANDS

GETTING HERE...
South Africa's Western Cape has been heavily influenced by European culture over the years (one only has to see the British-colonial and Cape-Dutch architecture to see what I mean) and those different styles, combined with the Cape's natural beauty make it one of the most appealing destinations on the planet today.

Direct flights to Cape Town are available on a daily basis, and thanks to a mere one/two hour time difference and an overnight flight 'jetlag' isn't a factor. Whilst this means – at least in theory – that shorter visits to South Africa are an option, in reality this just isn't possible, as there's simply too much to see, do, and - thanks to the favourable exchange rate – buy!

CAPE TOWN & SURROUNDS

CAPE TOWN
Founded on the banks of the River Tagus, the city of Lisbon on the central west coast of Portugal stands tall alongside Europe’s star capital cities. The city has many fine buildings, museums, and restaurants. Its eclectic blend of neighborhoods, culture and architecture distinguish this capital uniquely from other European cities and will give you a comprehensive overview of life in Portugal. Many of the city’s main attractions can be reached on foot, although the city’s public transport is convenient and comfortable.

OVERBERG
An hour's journey east from the winelands takes you up and over Sir Lowry's Pass, into the heart of the 'Overberg' region (directly translated as 'Over Mountain'). This area's slopes produce some of South Africa's best white wines, and as the hills flatten out as they near the sea one will come across small holiday towns and fishing villages such as Hermanus, where whales can be seen frolicking in the bay.

WINELANDS
Just a 30 mile drive north-east from Cape Town takes you into the rolling, vine-covered hills of the Cape Winelands. Made up of the historic towns of Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschoek, the Winelands represent the cultural, gastronomic and golfing centres of the Cape, boasting a number of incredible restaurants - Franschoek's "Le Quartier Francais" was voted one of the Top 50 restaurants in the world - and most exclusive golf courses such as Erinvale Golf Estate, which has hosted multiple international events including the South African Open and the World Cup of Golf.
